A historic moment for the Bronx — the New York City Council has officially approved the long awaited redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory, paving the way for one of the largest community driven revitalization projects in the borough’s history.
The $375 million redevelopment plan aims to transform the iconic landmark into a vibrant hub for workforce development, recreation, small business growth, and youth opportunities. The project reflects years of advocacy from local leaders, residents, and community based organizations like Theory 9, who have consistently pushed for an inclusive vision that benefits Bronx families first.

“This is more than construction , it’s restoration,” said Shakir Seagers of Theory 9. “The Armory has always symbolized the Bronx’s strength. Now, it will represent our future.”

The redevelopment will create thousands of jobs, support local entrepreneurs, and expand access to programs that empower the next generation — a major victory for the West Bronx and a testament to what’s possible when community voices lead the way.
